These wood lifting tongs hold a log with two serrated claws, so you can lift and move it from a chain, hook or crane. A 360° rotating lifting ring lets the tongs turn at the hook. They suit firewood prep, property clearing and timber handling.

Two serrated claws
Each arm is a flat steel plate with serrated teeth along the inner edge, ending in a hooked claw. A slotted D-shaped opening on each arm gives you a place to grip when positioning the tongs.

710mm grip, 812mm maximum opening
The supplier lists a grip size of 710mm (28in) and a maximum opening of 812mm (32in). Measure the thickest part of your log before ordering.

Load capacity
Supplier-specified capacity is 700kg static load and 600kg dynamic load. Plan your lifts around the 600kg figure. Use a chain, hook, hoist or crane with a working load limit at or above the load, and keep clear of a suspended log.

360° rotating lifting ring
The lifting ring turns, so the tongs can rotate at the hook. The product images show them hanging from a chain and hook while holding a log.

45 steel with a coated finish
The main material is 45 steel with an orange-coated finish, and the arms are joined with bolted pivots.

Wood lifting tongs: frequently asked questions

What size logs do these wood lifting tongs fit?

The supplier lists a grip size of 710mm (28in) and a maximum opening of 812mm (32in). Measure the thickest part of your log and check it against the maximum opening before you order.

The supplier does not give a minimum log diameter. If you mainly handle smaller logs, send us your log sizes and we will help you check.

How much weight can they lift?

The supplier specifies 700kg (1543lb) static load capacity and 600kg (1322lb) dynamic load capacity. Static is a load held still. Dynamic is a load that is moving, such as one being lifted or swung into position, so use the 600kg figure when you plan a lift.

These are supplier-stated figures, not a certified working load limit. Your chain, hook, hoist or crane must have a working load limit at or above the weight you are lifting, and nobody should stand under or beside a suspended log.

What do I attach the tongs to?

The tongs have a 360° rotating lifting ring at the top that takes a chain or hook, so the tongs can turn at the hook. The product images show them hanging from a chain and hook while holding a log.

We have not confirmed fit with specific vehicles or lifting equipment, so check that your gear has the right rating and a compatible connection before you buy.

How do the two claws hold the log?

Each arm is a flat steel plate with serrated teeth along the inner edge, ending in a hooked claw. The scissor-style linkage is designed to close the two claws around the log when you lift.

Position the claws squarely around the log before you lift, and lift a short distance first to check the grip holds.

How do these differ from your skidding tongs?

Our log skidding tongs and swivel log skidding tongs are designed for pulling logs along the ground. These wood lifting tongs have a rotating lifting ring and are set up for hoisting from a chain, hook or crane.

The sizes and capacities are different on each product, so check each listing against your logs and the weight you plan to lift.

Should I choose 2-claw or 4-claw tongs?

These two-claw tongs weigh 8kg and have a 600kg dynamic load capacity. Our 4-claw tongs, in 28in, 32in and 36in sizes, have higher dynamic capacities and hold the log with four claws, but they are heavier. Compare the specifications on each listing against your logs and the loads you lift.

What are they made from, and how big are they?

The main material is 45 steel with an orange-coated finish, and the arms are joined with bolted pivots. The tongs are 95cm long, 40cm wide and 8.5cm deep, and weigh 8kg.

After use, wipe off mud and moisture, and check the bolts, pivots and lifting ring before each lift.
