Choosing the right weed mat roll
A weed mat is a ground cover fabric laid over soil to help control weeds. Our rolls come in black and can be trimmed to the length and shape you need, which makes a single roll useful for several jobs around the garden.
The right roll depends on the area you want to cover. Measure the width and length of your space, then choose the roll whose width and length leave a little extra for overlaps and edges.

Coverage is the roll's width multiplied by its length. Allow extra for overlaps between pieces.
Quick tips for laying weed mat
- Clear stones, sticks and existing growth from the area first.
- Roll the mat out flat and trim it to length.
- Overlap neighbouring pieces so no soil is left exposed.
- Secure the edges so the mat stays in place.
Weed mat FAQs
How much area does one roll cover?
Multiply the roll's width by its length. A 0.915m x 100m roll covers 91.5 m², and a 1.83m x 50m roll covers the same area.
Can I cut weed mat to fit?
Yes. The rolls can be trimmed to the length and shape you need.
Which width should I choose?
Choose the width that covers your space with the fewest joins. Wider rolls mean fewer overlaps on larger areas, and narrower rolls suit long, thin beds and paths.
How many rolls do I need?
Work out your total area in square metres, add a little extra for overlaps, then compare it with the coverage figures in the size guide above.
What colour is the weed mat?
The rolls are black.
